The End of and Era

Saturday marked the end of an era.  The "Lewis McWilliam" era.  Lewis is no longer a full time member of Asparagus Now.  Lewis reportedly said "I'm not dead!" after the outpouring of grief from crazed fans (you know who you are!).

Lewis has, in a totally non staged and rehearsed way, literally passed the sticks on to the capable hands of Matty "Not yet got a nickname" Dean.

Fear not children for this means we will not be cancelling any dates and the new look Asparagus Now will be back in Stamps on July 11th with the first official gig of Asparagus Now MkIII!

Something kinda, "oooooooooh thats soooo interesting. Honest!"

It has come to our attention that we are lazy and seldom update this site.  So here you go a second update in a month(almost)! You lot don't even know your born!

Anyway genuine snippits of news.  The weekend in the 'Ports went reasonably well for us, well the night in the excellent Thatch & Thistle did.  Hopefully we will be back there again in the near future.

We are "Headlining" a mini festival in Blues Bar in Crosby Village on Sunday 3rd May along with several other bands.  We will be providing our unique(ish) brand of funk/blues/rock to the night.  Don't forget its the Bank Holiday so you can afford to get wrecked without worrying about work/college/uni/going the dole office on the Monday.

The Jam Night's continue in the legendary Ferndale.  However on 7th May something strange his happening and the consequences could well be interesting (or banal).  Ian will be missing a Jam Night.  Normally a band member missing a Jam Night doesn't make the news, but as Ian appears to know (or be able to blagg) pretty much every song we have been asked to do at a Jam Night it could be interesting!  Ian will be busy in Barcelona getting mugged by gypsy children and contracting swine flu (in no particular order).

So in closing, see you all in Blues on Sunday or else.................

It's been a while.........

........since we posted any news!  We can only imagine your glee at this new insight into the life of your favourite band!  We have been, for our incredibly high standards, busy of late.  We have been back in the studio recording a version of "I'm Free" which will be up on the site sometime in April.  Also we have gigs that are, wait for it, NOT in Crosby!  Honest!  We are playing in two local(ish) Ports.  To be honest were not so sure that they have been used as ports for sometime but we digress.  On 10th April (Good Friday to all you crazy Christians) we are making our debut in The Hollywood Pub in Stockport.  The following night we are making and appearance in The Thatch & Thistle in Southport.

As ever the Jam night is going strong and if you haven't been down yet you must have some kind of debilitating illness or not be from round these parts which is, admittedly the same thing.

Back into Liverpool - The Caledonia

It's been a while since we headed into Liverpool city centre, the last occasion being the fun-filled Zanzibar gig toward the end of last year. So you city-dwellers will be pleased to note that we're back in town on Wednesday 4th February, at The Caledonia pub. It's a nice traditional boozer on Catherine Street, in the rather nice area near the old cathedral .You know, the bit with the cobbled streets and that?

Anyway, as you might have already assumed from the Wednesday timeslot it's more of a trial gig than anything else - if all goes well we can expect plenty more bookings. And for that we need a top-quality audience! Like almost everything we do entry is completely free, but it's only a small one-room bar, so we highly recommend you get there early to grab a seat before the swarms of screaming fans arrive...

So, 007, your mission is quite simple: get down there for 8:30PM or thereabouts and enjoy an evening of cheap beer and top-notch live music. How hard can it be?

Website updates

We've just added a new page to the site about our weekly jam night. The page is looking a tad barren at present but it'll fill up with photos and videos as the jam nights continue.

So if you've got any pics or video from the Thursday night jams, please don't be bashful and send them in to us via the feedback page. We might even go all Art Attack on you and award a prize for the best one at the end of the year...

Also, don't forget you can keep up with the adventures of the band by joining our Facebook group.

Asparagus Now Jam Nights

The “Chinese democracy” album, a pink Floyd reunion tour, Led Zeppelin Tour, Asparagus Now jam nights and the rolling stones STOP touring...

...Yes, these are some of the great things that every rock fan could wish for...

But joy! The ‘Asparagus Now Jam nights’ are in full swing.

So if you want a Jam night with REAL rock music (none of this wimpy acoustic guitar stuff) come down to a bar that has it all (Great music, cheap beer, friendly staff and a stage that doesn’t have a wall 10ft in front of it)

EVERY Thursday, 9PM till late, just bring your guitar (or your band) and jam. Its THAT simple.

No news!

That's right folks - absolutely nothing has happened in the world of Asparagus Now lately. Bass player Tom's been pootling around the sea in the Tall Ships race, so we're taking a week or two respite from gigging.

Fear ye not, normal service will be resumed by the end of July.

Asparagus Now Invade The Internet!

Those cheeky Asparag-ite chappies have done it again. After the initial success of the first Island Invasion' tour, they immediately found themselves knee deep in smouldering plans for rocking the island a second time, but no, this wasn’t enough - they wanted more, a gig of such size, amplitude, and sheer unbridled rockingness that after attending said gig, your great grandkids would still be rocking to it in 60 years' time.

That right, Asparagus Now are invading the Intertubes with a live gig via the Stamps Bistro web cam.

The gig will commence on July 5th, at 7pm. If you want a better view, we still highly recomend turning up and seeing it live!

Crosby Music Fest - video!

Just thought we'd say a quick thanks to everyone

who came to see us at the Crosby Music Festival on Sunday. The place was packed, it was superb to see so many people made it down! Fortunately, our two new songs were captured on camera for your,er...viewing pleasure. Check them out on the Asparagus Now youtube channel right now, if you so wish.

Crosby Music Festival

Just a quick one to remind you all that we're taking part in this year's Crosby Music Festival this weekend. We're playing on Sunday 25th at The Village pub, at 2PM. For some reason we've been put on the 'original showcase' day, but we'll make the most of this opportunity to show off a few of our new songs/works-in-progress...a must for our regular fans!
Details are also available at the Stamps website.
