2010 T-shirt designs - grab 'em while they're hot!I've put together some new merchandise to replace the aging store which was, frankly, full of half-arsed shite. We've also managed to knock down the prices, with the cheapest T-shirt weighing in at under a tenner including delivery. When you buy something through the website it's printed to order, which has always worked great but it means we don't have a stock of T-shirts to sell - so if you don't like shopping online, tough titties! Have a quick look in the store and see if anything takes your fancy. Kyle Aspragus Now's HUGE Christmas Eve Jam!
Just like every Thursday, but bigger and with at least 88% more 'Christmas' than last week.
Join Kyle, Ian, Matt, Tommy, Lee, Chris and all the other regulars for a rock-filled Christmas Eve. Fancy dress optional but very welcome. ![]() If you always thought the Ferndale Lodge was just a place for old people and their dogs, be prepared to think again (no really!) - 'Asparagus Now's Big Jam' is the maddest, loudest rock night in town! Take advantage of the CHEAPEST DRINKS IN CROSBY and enjoy your Christmas Eve with Merseyside's biggest - and best - rock jam night! Festivities begin at 8PM! Be there early to ensure a seat, and a your name in the Asparagus now "book of jam" KJM - TL 'Tunnel Vision' recorded!
After a lot of waiting, we've finally got into the studio to get some material on tape. Working in the legendary Parr Street Studios with engineer Andrea Wright (Black Sabbath, Coldplay, Echo and The Bunnymen), we're proud to offically let loose the first tune today!
You can buy 'Tunnel Vision' right now on this very website for the princely sum of 50 pence (mailing list members get a free digi-download, check your email inbox!), or listen to the free, lower quality skint-o-vision version below: All the way from downtown scouseville...Guns II Roses
Tonight (9th Nov) we're joining the infamous tribute act Guns II Roses at the Cavern Club.
The more eagle-eyed among you might have spotted our drummer, Mr Matt Dean, in front of 30,00 people at Mathew St Festival this year: ![]() He's working in both bands at the moment, and that's lead to us supporting Axl, Slash and co at tonight's cavern gig. Tickets have sold fast, but if a night of loud rock music, strong drinks and ladies baring their breasticles appeals to you it's worth the trip. Entry on the door is £10, though get there early (doors open 8PM) to avoid disappointment. Asparagus Now 3.5 is here!![]() With main drummer Matt Dean on extended leave (he's touring with the highly acclaimed Guns 2 Roses, check them out here), the band is going through a major period of reinvention. We're currently gigging several talented drummers including Matt D (when he's not running round in spandex with G2R), our very own Lewis McWilliam, the highly talented Jimmy Mack, and the long-suffering roadie extraodinaire Matt Riley. To make things more varied we won't be advertising which drummer will appear on any given night, but you're guaranteed a great show. We'll also be supporting the Guns for a few dates later this year, watch this space. Amazingly, Asparagus Now's Big Jam is one year old this week!In other words, it's capable of making a few indecipherable noises and moving at a crawl, but can't clean up after itself. Join the birthday celebrations on Thursday 1st October at the Ferndale! For more info, check out the jam night page. To mark this period of change, we've designed ourselves a slick new website. Feel free to tell us what you like/hate about the new site in the comments below. It's still very much a work-in-progress, and we're adding/changing things all the time. The new design is professional, clean, simple and good-looking....almost exactly the opposite of Asparagus Now in fact! Cheers for all your support, and keep your eyes peeled for the many exciting changes to come this year. KM From the vaults: Yeah! Blues!
This week's delicious video morsel is from a Jam Night on July 30th. Interestingly enough, only one person on stage is from Asparagus Now, and only one person on stage has ever heard the song before.
This vid is a great demonstration of the sheer talent at our jam nights - and that it's not just the usual cavalcade of middle-aged Clapton clones playing mediocre white-boy blues for three hours a week... ...that's right, we only do it for two hours. KJM From the vaults: Matty and Lewis' dual-drummer spectacular!
Yes, we all miss Lewis - although Matt has turned out to be a more than worthy successor. Conspiracy theorists all over the internets have been coming up with bizarre theories like 'did Lewis McWilliam fake his own departure from the band?' and 'is Matt Dean really just Lewis in a blonde wig'?
Well, to set the record straight , here's some previously-unseen footage of the two great drummers jamming together at a jam night! Why settle for just one great drummer when you can have two, eh? In other news, we're working on a snazzy new Myspace layout - take a look and feel free to leave comment on this blog with your thoughts! KJM "It's real news, yes it's real news, yes it's real.............."
Yes, that's right - after a rather quiet period, wheels are in motion in the world of Asparagus Now. Our recent activity, of late, has mostly involved digging Stamps of out of Saturday Night-sized holes. Stepping in valiantly at the last moment on two occasions where the other professional (ahem) bands failed to turn up, we felt the bar owed us something in return....
So, as of August we'll be hosting a 'Sunday Showcase' in Stamps Bistro once a month, and we are looking for original bands. This is a great opportunity for bands to get their music heard and play to a really good crowd up close and personal (none of that poncy big-venue shite where you hide behind the lights with 30ft between the band and the actual audience). So if you think you're hard enough, or you have a band with some good songs and all that malarkey, drop us a line at contact@asparagusnow.com. Ciao for now. IR The End of an Era...?Saturday marked the end of an era. The "Lewis McWilliam" era. Lewis is no longer a full time member of Asparagus Now. Lewis reportedly said "I'm not dead!" after the outpouring of grief from crazed fans (you know who you are!). IR It's been a while.................since we posted any news! We can only imagine your glee at this new insight into the life of your favourite band! We have been, for our incredibly high standards, busy of late. We have been back in the studio recording a version of "I'm Free" which will be up on the site sometime in April. Also we have gigs that are, wait for it, NOT in Crosby! Honest! We are playing in two local(ish) Ports. To be honest were not so sure that they have been used as ports for sometime but we digress. On 10th April (Good Friday to all you crazy Christians) we are making our debut in The Hollywood Pub in Stockport. The following night we are making and appearance in The Thatch & Thistle in Southport. As ever the Jam night is going strong and if you haven't been down yet you must have some kind of debilitating illness or not be from round these parts which is, admittedly the same thing. IR Back into Liverpool - The Caledonia It's been a while since we headed into Liverpool city centre, the last occasion being the fun-filled Zanzibar gig toward the end of last year. So you city-dwellers will be pleased to note that we're back in town on Wednesday 4th February, at The Caledonia pub. It's a nice traditional boozer on Catherine Street, in the rather nice area near the old cathedral .You know, the bit with the cobbled streets and that?Anyway, as you might have already assumed from the Wednesday timeslot it's more of a trial gig than anything else - if all goes well we can expect plenty more bookings. And for that we need a top-quality audience! Like almost everything we do entry is completely free, but it's only a small one-room bar, so we highly recommend you get there early to grab a seat before the swarms of screaming fans arrive... So, 007, your mission is quite simple: get down there for 8:30PM or thereabouts and enjoy an evening of cheap beer and top-notch live music. How hard can it be? KJM Website updates We've just added a new page to the site about our weekly jam night. The page is looking a tad barren at present but it'll fill up with photos and videos as the jam nights continue. So if you've got any pics or video from the Thursday night jams, please don't be bashful and send them in to us via the feedback page. We might even go all Art Attack on you and award a prize for the best one at the end of the year... Also, don't forget you can keep up with the adventures of the band by joining our Facebook group. KJM No news! That's right folks - absolutely nothing has happened in the world of Asparagus Now lately. Bass player Tom's been pootling around the sea in the Tall Ships race, so we're taking a week or two respite from gigging.Fear ye not, normal service will be resumed by the end of July. KJM Asparagus Now Invade The Internet! Those cheeky Asparag-ite chappies have done it again. After the initial success of the first Island Invasion' tour, they immediately found themselves knee deep in smouldering plans for rocking the island a second time, but no, this wasn’t enough - they wanted more, a gig of such size, amplitude, and sheer unbridled rockingness that after attending said gig, your great grandkids would still be rocking to it in 60 years' time. That right, Asparagus Now are invading the Intertubes with a live gig via the Stamps Bistro web cam. The gig will commence on July 5th, at 7pm. If you want a better view, we still highly recomend turning up and seeing it live! TL Crosby Music Fest - video!
Just thought we'd say a quick thanks to everyone
